Why should you add smart fat to your protein shake?
The classic shake to enhance calorie burn and weight control adds 20 grams of pea protein, plus hopefully 4-6 grams of fiber with the shake powder. Add extra berries and cherries for more fiber, anti-oxidant-packed plant pigments, and flavor, pour in some coconut or almond milk, and wow, you have an awesome shake to start the day.
So why should you add fat to your shake?
Adding not just any fat, but smart fat, will lower inflammation and improve blood sugar control—and these are the primary factors that cause accelerated aging and weight gain in America today. In addition to the health benefits,
adding more fat to a shake gives it a nice creamy mouth feel—YUM!
What are smart fats? Smart fats are those fats that have proven benefits and have been tested in clinical trials. They include butter, Yes lard, cold-water, fatty fish (like wild salmon and sardines), avocado, nuts-nut oils- and nut butters, coconut oil, dark chocolate, and extra virgin olive oil.
Great options to add to your shake would be a nut butter (like almond butter) or avocado.
So give it a try. Add some Smart Fat to your shake, benefit your health and waistline, and enjoy an even tastier shake.
